Young Writers

More than 10,000 students from Kindergarten to Grade 12 particpate every year in the Festival. Inspired by their interactions with authors, students from all over the region take part in their own events during the Festival in which they present their own poetry, prose and song lyrics.

All the information you will need to encourage your students to participate in our many Young Writers events can be found in the Teachers' Guide for K-8 and grades 9-12.

Café Underground is the coolest event in town! High school students from all over the region perform their own poetry, prose and song lyrics. This event highlights all our rising stars on the literary front by giving our young authors a public venue in which to celebrate their creations. Happening on Wednesday April 25th 2012, don't miss these future stars as they share their creations! Are you interested in participating? If so, fill out this form by March 12th 2012.
Every year, qualified students from grades 5 to 8 present their work at the Budding Writers event.  It is an honor for these students to represent their school and to share their work with the public. This event will be held on Saturday April 30th, 2012. Students must register through their teacher.
There is even an event for the youngest writers! Come see the opening of Imagination at Work, on Saturday, April 22nd 2012 at the Bay in Highfield Square.  The Festival prepares a display of texts written by our very young authors from Kindergarten to grade 4. The display is mounted in The Bay for the duration of the Festival, allowing the public to come and appreciate the creative talent of our young people.
