Beyond Words with George Fry and Brigitte Clavette (Bilingual)
January 14 at 7 pm, Galerie d’art de l’Université de Moncton
The first Frye event of 2009 will take you “Beyond Words”: the works of 19 of New Brunswick’s most accomplished artists will be on display at the Galerie d’art de l’Université de Moncton. Each artist used his own genre to interpret the concept of "book." The exhibit is meant to be a profound exploration of what books mean to us, their role within our culture, our conscious and subconscious selves.
Join us on January 14th at the Louise et Reuben-Cohen art Gallery on the Université de Moncton campus for the opening of the Beyond Words exhibit. Two of the participating artistes will be present to offer a presentation on the project and their works following the opening reception: George Fry, the project’s catalyst, will present his series of pop-up books and Brigitte Clavette, known for her work with metals, will also offer her thoughts on the project and will discuss her “book”. Fry will present in English and Clavette, in French. The opening and reception will take place at 5:00pm with the presentation to follow at 7:00pm.
Mystery and Fiction: Keeping it real... but not really with Anne Emery (English)
February 18 at 7 pm, Moncton City Hall, 6th floor
They say write what you know. They say make your stories believable. And realistic. But what is believable? What is realistic and what is not? During her short time as a writer, Anne Emery has had the same experience as everybody else: that is, she’s encountered all kinds of “reality” that would never pass for good fiction! Don’t miss this unique Pop et Frye, in which a mystery novel writer will discuss the fine line between the real and the surreal.
Rabelais and Jacques Cartier with François Bon (French)
March 9 at 7 pm, Moncton City Hall, 6th floor
François Bon was born in the Vendée, in Western France, in 1953. He is the author of La Folie Rabelais, an essay on the Patangruel novel. He has also edited a revised version of Rabelais's novels according to their original punctuation.
At this 3rd Pop et Frye talk of the season, Bon will perform exerpts from Rabelais's fourth book and will discuss the author's stay with Cartier's seamen. More information on François Bon can be found on his website.
