Provincial creative writing contest

Students in grades 9 to 12 are invited to test their writing skills by participating in the Frye Festival’s annual writing contest in one of two categories: POETRY or SHORT STORY.

For a chance to win...

  • $250 cash prize
  • Half-day writing workshop with a Frye Festival author
  • Publication online
  • Tickets to the awards ceremony at Soirée Frye along with many Festival authors
Evaluation criteria
  • Style and organization
  • Grammar and punctuation 
  • Vocabulary and spelling
  • Quality of content and ideas
  • Presentation and respect of contest instructions
  • Maximum of 800 words (short story)
Themes (suggestions):
