Writers in the Schools

Since the Festival began in 2000, more than 100,000 students from kindergarten to grade 12 have had the chance to interact with Festival authors. Each year Festival authors participate in schools; they read from their works, conduct workshops, provide insight into the writing life and inspire students to read, write and create their own works.

Thanks to our sponsor, TD Canada Trust, there is no cost to schools!

  • February 17 for elementary and primary schools
  • February 24 for high schools
What's in it for you?
  • A published, award-winning author inspiring your students to enjoy reading and writing... and having a positive impact on our province's literacy rates!
  • A visit organised around your class schedule and at no cost to you or the students.
  • Different group sizes so you can combine classes.
  • Free copy of your author's book for your preparation... yours to get signed and keep!
It's easy! Here's what you have to do:
  • Register your class or group of classes by filling out our short form with your availabilities, preferences and contact information.
  • Confirm and commit (cancellations have a big impact on us)
  • Prepare the room to accommodate the author's needs (for example, projector, flip charts, etc.)
  • Prepare your students with the book and information we provide.
  • Provide hospitality to our author during his or her visit.
  • Give us feedback on the visit, with a few pictures if possible.
