Caroline Merola lives in Montreal and holds an undergraduate degree in fine arts from Concordia. She has illustrated books for several publishers, as well as educational books, posters, and magazines in Canada and the United States. She has also published successful graphic novels.
Now dedicating herself to illustrating children’s books full time, Caroline Merola has written and illustrated nearly 50 books, many of which promote reading in a different, playful way: a book that starts with the ending, others that can be read upside down as well as right side up. She regularly meets children in schools and libraries to talk to them about her work. Her books have been translated into English, Czech, Spanish, Korean, and Arabic. For 10 years she was also an editor with Bayard, overseeing her own collection.
She won the Governor General’s Literary Award for illustration in 2011, after being shortlisted in 2007 and 2008.
