Sonya Malaborza

Born in Rexton, New Brunswick, Sonya Malaborza first ventured into literary translation in 2001. She has since translated several contemporary poets, playwrights, essayists, and novelists. Namely, she has translated into French Beth Powning’s The Sea Captain’s Wife (2014) and Ami McKay’s The Birth House (2020).

These days she is working on translating poems and essays by the Venezuelan writer and translator Adalber Salas Hernández and on a theatre project around the figure of Phaedra (Échos de Phèdre : les fondements de la rage, a production of Inter Arts Matrix). At once a reader, a translator, and an ideas generator, Sonya Malaborza takes pleasure in accompanying authors in their creative endeavours, namely for the Ancrages literary review, for which she has been editing content since 2017. She also works as literary counsel for the Atlantic region for Éditions Prise de parole.
