Historical Fiction - Breathing Life into History

Join bestselling author Genevieve Graham to learn how to immerse yourself in a particular time period and bring history to life by ‘teaching the mind while touching the heart’. This short workshop will cover the foundations of historical fiction writing. Topics will include creating stories based in authentic, believable, and compelling settings; identifying historical settings that will appeal to your potential readership; fact-finding and fact-checking; organizing your research; incorporating historical elements seamlessly into your narrative; and avoiding the dreaded anachronisms.

This workshop will take place in English.

Presented in collaboration with the Writers' Federation of New Brunswick.

Places are limited and priority will be given to members of the WFNB and residents of New Brunswick. For authors who do not live in New Brunswick and are not a member of the WFNB, we ask that you send an email the Frye Festival team (, who will place you on a waiting list. Genevieve Graham has agreed to peruse manuscripts in advance. After registering, if you're interested in sharing please send a manuscript of five pages or fewer to the Frye Festival team ( info [ at ] ), no later than March 20, 2021.
