Judy Marie Augustine is a poet from Esgenoôpetitj First Nation. She was born on the first day of summer in the City of Miramichi. The third child in a family of seven, she was raised by her maternal grandmother, after whom she is named. Her grandmother was the one who encouraged her to read every day, which developed her love of words. Although quiet and stoical, she really is that surprise around every corner. She has read from her work at the Burnt Church Midsummer Festival. Her work appears in Cadence, a collection of poetry by New Brunswick women and translators published by Frog Hollow Press in fall 2020.
