Diane Carmel Leger
Diane Carmel Léger grew up at the bottom of the butte à Pétard, in the village of Memramcook, New Brunswick. For 20 years, she lived in Victoria, Vancouver Island, where she taught in French immersion. She wrote several books, including the picture book Maxine’s Tree, winner of the national CCBC Choice Award. Homesickness led her to write her first youth novel, La Butte à Pétard (The Lookout Tree), which won the Hackmatack Children’s Choice Book Award. Returning to her hometown in 2006, she published Retour à la butte à Pétard (Return to the Lookout Tree), a sequel to the story, and she concluded the trilogy with Échos de la butte à Pétard (Echoes of the Lookout Tree).
