FRYE Fever

Join us on Friday night for the second edition of Frye Fever - an event where words and tunes collide in the most electrifying way! This event brings together writers and DJs for a high-energy mashup of rhythms and rhymes. Five writers will have just 36 hours to craft two original texts each—but there’s a catch! The final line of every piece needs to be the title of a song so good, you have to get up and dance. So, wear your glamest outfit, lace up those dancing shoes, and let the words pull you in before the beets take over. And the night doesn’t stop there—stick around for a DJ set by Beets & Beans! Presented with pride in partnership with the Aberdeen Cultural Centre.

Balade littéraire - La poésie prend Moncton

On Saturday, April 25, meet in front of the Aberdeen Cultural Centre to join a literary walk, presented by the Montreal Poetry Festival as part of the “Poetry Takes Over the Parks” project. As we stroll through the streets of Moncton, we’ll make a few stops where a total of six local poets will read poems to you in French and English. The Poésie prend les parcs project aims to create 25 outdoor poetry events in various cities across Quebec and Canada, in collaboration with cultural and community organizations and local artists. The initiative seeks to bring poetry into public spaces and promote it across Canada. We thank the Canada Council for the Arts for its support.

Qasida Flamenca

Qasida Flamenca is a musical and poetic project inspired by Mediterranean sounds and the rich traditions of the Maghreb and Andalusia. Rooted in Arab, Berber, and Francophone heritage, the project brings together flamenco guitar and classical Arabic poetry in a unique artistic dialogue. Through original compositions and improvisations inspired by flamenco compás, combined with poetic recitations drawn from the Arab-Andalusian tradition, Qasida Flamenca explores universal themes such as love, exile, spiritual quest, and memory.

On stage, the project unfolds as an intimate sonic journey where music and poetry respond to one another, revealing the deep connections between two worlds that history may have separated, but that art naturally reunites.

This event is included with the Festival Pass.

Translation in/of Fiction, Fiction in/of translation

With this panel, we wish to put three translation/literary scholars in conversation with Madhur Anand, specifically around her novel To Place a Rabbit, where fiction and the act of writing intersect with translation in multilayered and complex ways. During the panel, literary scholar and writer Kasia Juno Van Schaik (University of New Brunswick) and literary translation scholars Geneviève Robichaud (Mount Allison University, Université de Moncton) and Arianne Des Rochers (Université de Moncton) will be invited to provide a brief scholarly analysis of To Place a Rabbit, with particular focus on translation (both literal and figurative) as a poetic, literary and fictional device. These short presentations will be followed by an interactive discussion, where the author and the public will be invited to respond to and engage with the scholarly insights put forward.
