Sébastien Bérubé is a multidisciplinary artist from northwestern New Brunswick. First known as a singer-songwriter, then as a poet, he made a sensational debut in the world of prose with the short story collection Rivières-aux-Cartouches, a bestseller that won the Combat national des livres (Radio-Canada), the Champlain Prize, and the Éloize Award for Artist of the Year in Literature in 2024. His work offers a candid, sharp, and sensitive perspective on his region and on current social and political injustices. After working in schools as a cultural and community development officer for the Maliseet First Nation of Madawaska, then as program director for Éditions Perce-Neige’s Voix émergentes initiative, he is now a cultural worker and doctoral student in literary studies, though he often takes time off to go moose hunting, trail running, or writing when he’s not busy.
